Austin Gergens '21, a second-year graduate student, has brought a taste of Texas to Hillsdale, Michigan. Despite not being a native Texan, Gergens has developed an appreciation for the culture of the Lone Star State.
Gergens gained this appreciation during his time teaching at a charter school in Texas for a year. He recalls the unique aspects of Texas, saying:
The summers are pretty brutal, but the barbecue is very good, and the people are very good as well. There's definitely a distinct ethos to Texans that was fun to be around.
To share this culture with others, Gergens started a tradition called "Texas Tuesday," where he wears boots, a jacket, and a bolo tie every Tuesday and encourages others to do the same.
