Inside Selhurst: How engineers rebuilt 300 Electrostar trains without sending a single one off-site

Refurbishment of Electrostar Trains

A £100 million project to refurbish over 300 Electrostar trains has been completed by Govia Thameslink (GTR) staff at the Selhurst depot.

The project, which took five years to complete, is believed to be the largest fleet upgrade in modern times and was carried out entirely in-house by GTR staff.

In this case, the decision was made to bring the job in-house and use GTR's existing Selhurst depot to carry out the work.

No single train was sent off-site for refurbishment.
