Signal Mountain Diverts Large Amount Of Cardboard From Landfill
Signal Mountain has a new contract with Waste Connections for garbage and construction debris disposal services.
A total of $9,660 was paid for July through September, with $3,500 remaining outstanding from sanitation billing.
The city has successfully diverted a large amount of cardboard from municipal solid waste, redirecting 14 tons to be recycled, in addition to the approximately 64 tons of cardboard that the city can sell.
- 24 tons of metal were recycled
- 5 tons of glass were recycled
This achievement came from 21,306 visits to the recycling center by citizens.
The town is also rebuilding dilapidated sidewalks using a mixture of funding from a TDOT grant and town funds, with the public works department handling the part of the project that exceeded the grant amount.
