Haunting Tales of Falmouth's 1775 Bombardment
Spirits Alive invites Mainers to a haunting evening at the Eastern Cemetery where history comes alive with tales of Falmouth's bombardment in 1775.
On October 18, 1775, Captain Mowatt of HMS Canceau was ordered by Admiral Graves to bombard Falmouth (now Portland), and burn the town to ashes.
The event occurred on the eve of the War of Independence, after the Battle of Lexington forced Mainers to openly choose sides.
According to Spirits Alive, participants, witnesses, and victims will share their accounts of the events leading up to and including the tragic destruction of Falmouth.

This event marks the 250th anniversary of the catastrophic bombardment.
