Despite the desire to be environmentally friendly, AI data centers face significant energy challenges.
In southwest Wyoming, a massive new AI data center from Prometheus Hyperscale is being planned. The company's founder and CEO, Trenton Thornock, has a personal connection to the land, having spent summers there as a child and with his family having been ranchers for six generations.
"I spent most of my summers in Wyoming riding north of the interstate here, moving cattle,"
Thornock is exploring ways to power the data center, including using solar panels. A weather station has been set up at the site to measure the amount of sunlight and determine the best angle for the panels.
