Poland Spring Reduces Water Pumping Amid Maine's Drought

Maine is experiencing a severe drought, with minimal rainfall and hundreds of dry wells, prompting concerns among residents.

According to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, companies with significant groundwater wells must monitor water levels and reduce or halt pumping if levels drop too low.

The DEP reports that no water bottling operations have been required to reduce or stop withdrawals during this drought.

Poland Spring says it has already made cutbacks on its own, implementing a "significant" reduction in withdrawals at their Clear Spring site in Hollis, as well as cutbacks in Fryeburg and other locations across Maine, as of September 1.
