Cardinal Presides Over Act of Reparation in St. Peter's
Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica, presided over a penitential rite of reparation at the main altar following a serious act of desecration.
The rite, attended by members of the chapter of the Vatican basilica, included a penitential procession and the sprinkling of holy water to purify the altar.

According to Father Enzo Fortunato, director of communications for St. Peter's Basilica, the rite was held to ask for forgiveness for the desecration.
