Food pantries and non-profits are facing increased pressure due to cold weather, SNAP cuts, and the government shutdown.
Dream Center Bismarck, a nonprofit providing food and essentials, is experiencing higher numbers earlier this year.
“It’s just easier to walk in here and get a meal than to go over to social services and try to apply for some card that you may or may not get,”said Robert Ereth, a food pantry client.
According to reports,
“We’re seeing a lot of people who are scared of what’s coming. You know, they’re hearing about government shutdowns, and you know that type of thing. So there’s a bit of panic buying, if you will.”
