The idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, according to Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member.
Goldstein spoke to Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com on The Insiders podcast, revealing how a former NFL star helped Dusty Rhodes come up with the MVP character.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
Goldstein discussed how Rhodes would create gimmicks and characters for stars in developmental, including MVP, who was doing a rudimentary version of his character at the time.
The inspiration for the full body suit and sports-styled presentation of MVP came from NFL star Terrell Owens, a player for the Eagles, Goldstein's favorite team.
