UN Secretary General Calls for Roadmap to Stability in Libya

Guterres acknowledged that UNSMIL has played a crucial role in managing political crises, facilitating electoral processes, and reducing local violence. However, he noted that ongoing divisions, multiple power centers, and the presence of heavy weapons across regions continue to undermine the country's unity and institutional integrity.
The absence of a comprehensive political settlement would leave Libya vulnerable to further division and security tensions.
Guterres called for accelerated steps toward unifying institutions and implementing a national roadmap based on free and transparent elections and inclusive national dialogue, including national elections.
He emphasized the need for a roadmap to ensure Libya's stability and security.
