Whirlpool's Response to ADEQ Concerns

Whirlpool has agreed to some of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) requests to monitor and mitigate cancer-causing pollutants around the former Whirlpool Fort Smith plant.

The plant, located at 6400 Jenny Lind Road, was closed in June 2012, with most production jobs moved to Mexico. In 2013, Whirlpool officials admitted to leaking trichloroethylene (TCE), a cancer-causing chemical, into surrounding properties.

Copenhagen-based Ramboll was hired by Whirlpool to monitor pollution and provide remediation plans to the ADEQ.

Whirlpool has agreed to do more to mitigate cancer-causing pollutants.
