The respiratory season, often referred to as the influenza season, has officially commenced in Hungary as of the 40th week of 2025.
It is anticipated to reach its peak between the 3rd and 7th weeks of 2026. Currently, coronavirus infections are predominant, with nearly 100 individuals hospitalized due to severe acute respiratory infection (ARI), of which more than a third have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
During the 2025/2026 season, the respiratory surveillance service will monitor the incidence of influenza-like illnesses and acute respiratory infections based on data from 1,288 general practitioners and pediatricians.
The smallest number of doctors to participate in the surveillance to date.
