Port Authority, Museum Partner to Relocate Steel Artifact

Port Authority and Museum Collaborate to Relocate Historic Steel Artifact

The Western Reserve Port Authority and Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor are working together to relocate a 16,000-pound steel ingot.

The ingot was poured from the first heat of Republic Steel Corp.'s new basic oxygen furnace in 1965, and currently sits outside the main gate of the Pine Avenue Southwest site.

A port authority employee, previously employed at the former mill, recognized the ingot's historic significance, according to Gabrielle Davis, marketing and project manager for the port authority.

The ingot is a significant piece of history, having been poured from the first heat of Republic Steel Corp.'s new basic oxygen furnace in 1965.
