Komsic: Bosnia and Herzegovina is Not Perfect, But It Belongs to Us

Statehood Day Ceremony in Sarajevo

A ceremonial reception to mark the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina took place at the Sarajevo City Hall. The event was organized by state officials and attended by representatives of political, social, and public life from across the country.

Address by Željko Komšić

During his speech, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, highlighted the importance of unity and loyalty to the nation despite its challenges.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is not ideal, but it is ours,” Komšić stated. “We must remain faithful to our country and continue to build it together.”

He emphasized that the independence and continuity of Bosnia and Herzegovina are the result of the enduring will of its citizens. Although political divisions and difficulties persist, Komšić urged citizens to uphold the values of the state and resist any attempts to question its sovereignty.

Reflection on National Identity

Komšić reminded attendees that Statehood Day recalls key historical moments when decisions were made to preserve the autonomy and multiethnic unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out that patriotism means protecting the homeland’s democratic integrity rather than seeking perfection in governance.

“We have no other home but this one, and it is up to us to make it a better place for everyone,” he said.

The speech concluded with an appeal for collective responsibility and perseverance in strengthening the state, underlining that progress requires faith, dialogue, and dedication.
