A woman from Havant is in disbelief after winning the People’s Postcode Lottery by accident, having meant to cancel her direct debit. Juliette Spencer-Besant, 47, received £250,000 when her postcode, PO9 2LD on Lockerley Road, was drawn as the weekly Millionaire Street prize.
The PO9 2LD postcode covers a nine-storey block of flats in Leigh Park, where three ticket holders each won a quarter of a million pounds. Juliette described the win as "the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me."
She was surprised when Judie McCourt, the Postcode Lottery ambassador, came to her door with the prize cheque.
"There was disbelief when I saw the cheque and then a wave of emotion came over me. But I managed to pull it together."
Juliette explained her initial intention to cancel the lottery: “I was going to cancel a couple of months back, but I’m really bad at personal stuff. I was going through direct debits and bits and pieces. A promotion came up at work and I’ve been focused on that for the last two months, so I never got round to it.”
She continued, “I did get round to cancelling some subscriptions, but with life and everything else, I didn’t get round to cancelling the Postcode Lottery. It’s probably the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me. I’ll keep playing now.”
Juliette plans to invest her winnings wisely but intends to treat herself before that.
