First Dose of Wintry Weather to Hit GTA on Sunday

Environment Canada is forecasting a snowfall between 2 and 10 centimeters starting Sunday morning and lasting through the day across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The advisory, issued Saturday, spans regions from London to Ottawa.

A snowfall warning remains active for parts of eastern Ontario, where accumulations could reach up to 20 centimeters in certain spots.

“This is system snow, it’s going to be widespread, so this is indeed our first widespread snow event of the season,” said CityNews Meteorologist Chris Potter.

According to Potter, the current weather system’s path will bring mostly snow to southern Ontario. Precipitation is expected to begin as rain overnight before turning into snow Sunday morning. After a short pause, snow showers will resume by afternoon and continue into the evening.

“Keep in mind what falls might not equate to what stays on the ground,” Potter noted, explaining that downtown Toronto could see about 2 centimeters, while northern areas might receive 5 to 10 centimeters.

Environment Canada advises drivers to anticipate poor travel conditions and adjust their routes and schedules accordingly.

Summary

Snowfall of up to 20 cm is expected across the GTA and eastern Ontario on Sunday, marking the region’s first widespread winter storm of the season.
