Karrueche Tran is expanding her talents by stepping into the world of rap. Known as an Emmy Award-winning actress, beauty entrepreneur, and fashion icon, she now stars as a platinum-selling rapper in Lifetime’s original film Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love, premiering on November 8.
The film centers on Charlisa “Charlie” Jones, portrayed by Tran, a rapper whose bold image and intense lyrics attract more attention than harmony. After serving time in jail, Charlie is assigned court-ordered community service under Pastor Kyrus Owens (Mark J.P. Hood), who is dedicated to raising funds for a new church building.
Though they come from very different backgrounds, a strong connection develops between Charlie and Pastor Owens. As their relationship grows, the pastor's congregation begins to doubt his devotion, while Charlie confronts her conflicting public persona and her wish for redemption. The story explores themes of faith, forgiveness, and fame while showcasing Tran's most musically challenging role to date.
“I’m not musically inclined in any way,” Karrueche shared with Celeb Secrets at the Raising Cane’s Giant Pumpkin Unveiling Event in Hollywood. “But it was a great challenge. I studied a rapper named Lola Brooke, I prepared myself, and I did it.”
This role highlights Tran's versatility and determination to take on new artistic challenges beyond acting and fashion.
Author’s summary: Karrueche Tran takes on her most daring role yet as a platinum-selling rapper in Lifetime’s new film, overcoming musical barriers through dedicated preparation and channeling rapper Lola Brooke’s style.
