Wendy's announced plans to close approximately 300 stores across the United States in the coming months. This follows an earlier announcement of 150 closures scheduled for late 2024. The company is undertaking these actions to improve overall franchise performance by eliminating underperforming locations.
Interim CEO Ken Cook confirmed the closures during a quarterly earnings call on November 7, emphasizing the goal to preserve some locations while addressing those that hurt the brand and franchisee profitability.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," Cook said. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
The announcement did not list specific restaurants or regions targeted for closure, but the process is set to begin later this year.
New Jersey currently hosts 145 Wendy's locations, including many in South Jersey. It remains unclear if any New Jersey locations will be among those closed. Customers can use Wendy’s official restaurant locator tool online to find the nearest open location.
