Wendy’s Plans to Close Hundreds of Restaurants

Wendy’s has announced plans to shut down a significant number of its U.S. locations. The interim CEO revealed that the closures will affect approximately 200 to 350 restaurants out of about 6,000 nationwide.

These closures target stores identified as “consistently underperforming,” which have negatively impacted the chain’s overall results. The process will begin soon and is expected to continue into next year. No specific locations have been disclosed yet.

This move follows last year’s decision to close 140 outlets due to similar performance issues. Wendy’s recently reported a quarterly sales decline of nearly 5%, in contrast to competitors like McDonald's and Burger King, which experienced positive earnings during the same period.

The interim CEO described the closures as a way to address “consistently underperforming” locations dragging down the overall business.

Wendy's is actively restructuring to improve its financial health amid challenging market conditions.
