Pitt Women’s Soccer Ends Tumultuous Season with Victory Over No. 1 Notre Dame

Pitt women’s soccer surprised many by defeating No. 1 Notre Dame at Ambrose Urbanic Field last week, securing the winning goal in the 85th minute. A late corner kick from senior forward Margaret Wilde set up junior defender Mya Archibald, who headed the ball cleanly inside the left post to give the Panthers the lead.

Junior goalkeeper Abby Reisz delivered one of her best performances this season, making six saves, including a critical stop in the first half that halted Notre Dame’s early momentum.

Notre Dame needed only a win or a draw to claim the ACC regular-season title, with the trophy literally waiting beneath Ambrose Urbanic Field.

However, Pitt played with determination, led by junior captain Olivia Lee. The Panthers’ backline remained disciplined and compact, preventing the Irish—who had scored eight goals in a single match earlier in the season—from creating dangerous chances in the box.

This victory marks the first time in program history that Pitt women’s soccer has beaten a No. 1-ranked team.

The Panthers finished the season 6-10-2 overall, with just two wins in ACC play, struggling to find consistency in one of the nation’s toughest women’s conferences.
