Kazakhstan is set to endorse the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, a newly developed international treaty designed to enhance global cooperation in fighting crimes involving information and communication technologies (ICT).
Adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2024 under Resolution 79/243, this Convention stands as the first comprehensive global legal framework addressing offenses related to digital technologies.
The treaty extends to various activities where ICT systems are exploited to commit serious crimes, including human trafficking, corruption, and terrorism financing.
According to the UN, "digital networks have amplified the reach and speed of criminal activity, calling for coordinated international action."
Kazakhstan’s participation reflects its commitment to strengthening cybersecurity and aligning with global efforts to address increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
A Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports that the Convention "introduces broader definitions of cybercrime and expands the jurisdictional powers of participating states."
By joining, Kazakhstan will play a role in fostering international cooperation essential for combating cyber offenses more effectively worldwide.
