Student project looks to promote bike safety in Kino Springs

Student Project Aims to Enhance Bike Safety in Kino Springs

Alexis Simon, a sophomore at Nogales High School, learned to ride a bike along Kino Springs Drive. She enjoys the mostly flat, peaceful route to Beyerville and back, appreciating the area's rich nature and biodiversity. During her rides, Alexis often sees deer and occasionally mountain lions.

Despite the scenic surroundings, biking on the narrow shoulders of this route sometimes causes her anxiety.

“Biking along the thin shoulders on that route sometimes makes her nervous.”

This initiative is supported by grant funding from the Arizona Local News Foundation’s Arizona Community Collaborative Fund and Report for America.
