The first potential snowfall of the season is approaching as temperatures in Ottawa are expected to fall this weekend. Environment Canada forecasts that the weekend will begin with rain and a high near 4°C.
Showers will taper off by evening, followed by intermittent rain overnight. Saturday will see temperatures hover just above 0°C, rising slightly as the sun breaks through clouds. Winds gusting around 20 km/h are also anticipated.
Saturday night into Sunday, temperatures will fall to around -6°C with a chance of snow flurries. Sunday itself will bring snow with highs near 0°C, falling to -3°C overnight.
This marks the first real possibility of snow this season, although some flakes were observed earlier in the week but did not accumulate.
Looking ahead, Monday night will bring much colder temperatures, dropping to lows near -13°C, signaling a more definitive start to winter conditions. Typical temperatures for this period usually range between 7°C and -1°C.
“Temperatures will hover just above 0 and rise as the sun peeks through clouds on Saturday. Wind gusts of around 20 km/h are expected,” said Environment Canada.
“Overnight Saturday into Sunday is when temperatures will drop to -6 C and bring a likelihood of flurries,” added the forecast.
