Real Madrid legend Gareth Bale openly criticized Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior following the 1-0 Champions League loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night. Speaking on CBS Sports, Bale gave a sharp assessment of Real Madrid's attacking efforts.
Bale pointed out that both Mbappé and Vinicius lacked the necessary spark and creativity to break through Liverpool's defense in the final 30 meters. He said:
"I think it was that spark that Henry and I were talking about which was missing: Mbappé and Vinicius just couldn't create any magic in the final 30 meters to reignite Real Madrid. It was a bit disappointing to see that in this area, we didn't see the quality we've come to expect from Real Madrid players."
Expressing frustration, Bale suggested the two attackers were complicating their play. He remarked:
"Vinicius and Mbappé didn't work any miracles to get Real Madrid back into the game. They're faster than anyone else on the pitch... maybe it's because there was nobody in the box, no focal point... maybe they need a number 9."
He added, "It's frustrating, I think they're making life too difficult for themselves. Sometimes, they just need to test the defense."
Gareth Bale sharply criticized Mbappé and Vinicius for lacking creativity and overcomplicating play, suggesting Real Madrid needs a focal striker to improve its attack.
