Xpeng to Launch 3 Robotaxi Models in 2026

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) announced plans to release three robotaxi models in 2026 and begin trial operations, marking a significant step in its autonomous driving strategy. The announcement was made by Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng during the 2025 AI Day event in Guangzhou, the company’s headquarters.

Advanced Turing AI Chips

The upcoming robotaxis will be powered by four of Xpeng's proprietary Turing AI chips, offering a combined computing capacity of up to 3,000 TOPS. This hardware is designed to handle intensive real-time data processing necessary for autonomous navigation and environment perception.

Next-Generation VLA Model

Each model will integrate Xpeng's second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model, enabling the vehicles to adapt to diverse global traffic environments. The company highlighted that these robotaxis will not depend on high-definition maps, allowing for simpler production and lower costs.

The vehicles require no modifications and do not rely on high-definition maps, allowing for low-cost mass production.

Global Deployment and Interaction Features

Xpeng stated that its robotaxis are designed to operate beyond restricted test areas, supporting cross-city and even cross-border operations. The vehicles will also feature external communication capabilities, allowing pedestrians to observe vehicle intentions—such as turning or parking—through visual displays on the windshield.

Collaborative Development via SDK

To foster innovation, Xpeng plans to release a robotaxi SDK (Software Development Kit) to attract international partners and build a broader ecosystem around autonomous mobility technologies.

Author’s summary: Xpeng accelerates its autonomous mobility vision with three advanced robotaxi models in 2026, powered by its in-house AI chips and adaptive VLA system for global scalability.
