Manchester City will secure the Premier League title if Manchester United fail to win against current champions Liverpool on Sunday.
Manchester City moved closer to their third Premier League crown in four seasons thanks to a moment of brilliance from Sergio Aguero, who scored the opening goal in their 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola's team dominated the match, but the breakthrough came just before the hour mark when Aguero struck a stunning half-volley that broke Palace's defense.
A minute after Aguero's goal, Ferran Torres doubled the lead with a precise low shot. City continued to press, with Raheem Sterling hitting the woodwork and Joao Cancelo also coming close to scoring.
"It was a long time that I hadn’t played 90 minutes," Aguero told the BBC. "The goal was good because maybe we can win the Premier League. Of course, if Liverpool win it’s better."
If Manchester United draw on Sunday, they remain mathematically capable of catching City, but their significantly inferior goal difference makes this unlikely.
Author's summary: Sergio Aguero’s late goal propelled Manchester City towards another Premier League title, while Manchester United face a tough challenge against Liverpool to keep their hopes alive.
