Indigenous Land Back Movement in Colorado

Rick Williams, an Oglala Lakota citizen with Cheyenne ancestry, is among the leaders of Colorado's Indigenous land back movement. His Cheyenne ancestors were forcibly removed from Colorado in the 1800s.

A movement has emerged to bring Indigenous tribes back to Colorado, hundreds of years after they were forcibly removed. Williams is often asked to give land acknowledgements, but he wants more than just words.

Tell me what you're going to do about it. It's stolen.

He challenges audiences to take action, asking, "There's a lot of injustice that went on. What are you going to do about it?" Williams now proposes a new approach for the entire state and its 6 million residents.

Author's summary: Rick Williams leads Colorado's Indigenous land back movement.
