Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment marks another successful collaboration between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo, adding exciting surprises to the familiar formula. Having played numerous Warriors games over the years, I expected the usual intense battles, but this title offers something unexpectedly fresh.
Unexpectedly, this game includes what feels like the closest thing to a new Star Fox title in nearly ten years, allowing players to fly and shoot in a mini Star Fox-style game embedded within the Warriors action.
Age of Imprisonment follows the same action-packed style as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, telling the prequel story to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It builds directly on the systems of the previous game while incorporating new elements from Tears of the Kingdom.
The narrative centers on the Imprisoning War against Ganandorf, events that set up the world of Tears of the Kingdom. The entire story takes place in the distant past, focusing on Princess Zelda's alliance with King Rauru and Queen Sonia.
“Age of Imprisonment essentially does the exact same thing as the previous game, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, in that it’s an action-focused experience that tells the prequel story to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”
This combination results in one of the strongest Warriors titles in recent years, adding depth to the established lore.
Age of Imprisonment delivers thrilling combat and an unexpected Star Fox-style flying segment, enhancing the Zelda universe while evolving the Warriors gameplay.
Author's summary: Age of Imprisonment revitalizes the Warriors series with intense battles, a rich Zelda prequel tale, and a surprising embedded Star Fox-like flying experience.
