Former Nursing Assistant Indicted in Patient's Death

A former nursing assistant, Diamond Johnson, has been indicted for negligent homicide after a patient fell out of a hydraulic lift and died.

According to the Louisiana Attorney General, the incident occurred at Jefferson Manor, a nursing home in Baton Rouge, in June 2024.

The patient was being moved from a chair to a bed using a hydraulic lift when she slipped out and landed on the feet of the lift, becoming unresponsive about 40 minutes later.

An autopsy revealed that the patient died from complications due to blunt force injuries from the fall, as stated by the Attorney General's office.

The indictment was handed down by a grand jury following an investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, led by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.

The patient could not be resuscitated after the fall.
