Health experts warn that thousands could die from flu this winter as NHS leaders issue an urgent call for vaccination.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported that flu-related deaths in England rose to 7,757 last winter, compared with 3,555 the previous year. Child deaths from flu also increased, climbing from 34 to 53.
Sir Jim Mackey, NHS chief executive, stated, "There is no doubt this winter will be one of the toughest our staff have ever faced," with upcoming doctor strikes adding to the challenge.
The NHS is urging the public to get vaccinated to protect themselves and curb the virus spread as the winter flu season approaches.
Claire Nevinson, superintendent pharmacist at Boots, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated without delay.
"Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself against flu and help reduce the spread of the virus," Claire Nevinson advised.
With rising risks and pressures on healthcare staff, timely vaccination is critical to reduce the impact of this flu season.
