What’s happening for Remembrance Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Remembrance Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake

As Remembrance Day approaches, Canada prepares to honour the soldiers who have fought in the First World War, Second World War, and other conflicts to protect the country and its citizens.

Community Participation

Businesses across Niagara-on-the-Lake are distributing poppies, which residents wear proudly on jackets and shirts. Poppy displays can be seen throughout the community at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, Historic Court House, RiverBrink Art Museum, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 on King Street.

Poppy Drive and Donations

The museum’s poppy drive started in October, with 75 poppy wreaths placed around the heritage district.

Al Howse, president of the legion, stated, “Members have been busy preparing for the commemorations. Everything.”

The legion’s poppy drive began Oct. 11. Members are collecting donations and handing out poppies on the streets. Howse explained, “We accept donations at that time for our poppy trust fund to support veterans and their families.”

Poppies are available in 200 local businesses, with thousands already distributed.

Commemorative Events

Niagara-on-the-Lake will host several events leading up to and on Remembrance Day, November 11.

Summary: Niagara-on-the-Lake actively honours Remembrance Day with poppy drives, community displays, and events supporting veterans and their families.
