Elder Gérald Caussé Called to Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was called and ordained as the latest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday.

Elder Caussé, 62, was ordained by President Dallin H. Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. This Quorum is the Church's second-highest presiding body, with its members serving as special witnesses of Christ and managing the global Church’s administrative duties.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”

Background and Ministry

Born in Bordeaux, France in 1963, Elder Caussé moved to Paris when he was 19 years old. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation Church members, married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986, and parents to five children.

Elder Caussé served as a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012 and as a member of the Presiding Bishopric from 2012 until his recent calling. Throughout his service, he has been recognized for his focus on caring for others and emphasizing the importance of supporting the Church’s youth.
